Getting started
Media Folders is two plugins. WorkMore Media Folders is the free plugin on WordPress.org: virtual folders for the Media Library — folder tiles in the grid, drag and drop, nesting, colours, search and importers — complete on its own. WorkMore Media Folders Pro is an add-on that needs it and adds offload to Cloudflare R2 or any S3-compatible storage, ZIP downloads of folders and selections, auto-organize rules, folder permissions and library insights. This page takes you through both.
What you need
- WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer.
- The free plugin, from Plugins → Add New or its WordPress.org page.
- For Pro: the add-on's zip from your purchase email. Freemius, who sells and delivers the add-on, also keeps it in your account with them.
1. Install the free plugin
- Plugins → Add New, search for WorkMore Media Folders, Install Now, Activate.
- Open Media → Library: the folder sidebar is on the left, and the grid shows your folders as tiles above the files that are in no folder. Create a folder with + New and drag files onto it.
Folders are virtual: nothing moves on disk and no URL changes.
2. Add Pro
- Download the add-on from the link in your purchase email (the zip's
name starts with
workmore-media-folders-pro). Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose that zip, Install Now, Activate. The free plugin must stay installed and active: Pro is an add-on to it. WordPress 6.5 and newer enforce this; on older versions the add-on shows a notice with the one click that fixes it. - Activate your license when the add-on asks: paste the license key from your purchase email. Later it is under Plugins → WorkMore Media Folders Pro → Activate License.
- Media → WorkMore Media Folders now has the Pro cards — Pro account, Storage locations, Auto-organize rules — and Media → Insights opens the dashboard. To move files to R2, follow Offloading media to Cloudflare R2.
Updates
- The free plugin updates from WordPress.org like any other plugin.
- The add-on updates from Plugins → Updates while your license is active: a yearly license while it renews, a lifetime license for as long as the plugin exists.
- If a yearly license lapses, nothing breaks: offloaded files are still served, folder permissions stay enforced and files can always be brought back. Updates and new Pro work — offloading, ZIP downloads, rules, insights — pause until you renew; Pro account has the button.
Sites
- A license covers one site.
- Local and staging copies of a site do not count.
- To move a license, deactivate it on the old site (Pro account → Manage account) and activate it on the new one.
Removing Pro
Bring offloaded files back to your server first (Storage locations → Existing files → Bring everything back), then deactivate and delete the add-on: the free plugin keeps every folder, and your site is exactly as it was.
